Pride Fest 2026 — I Thought I Was in Bali

Event description:

I Thought I Was in Bali was an immersive Indonesian Open House designed to take audiences beyond familiar perceptions of Indonesia centred on Bali. Participants explored Indonesian culture through interactive experiences including traditional jajanan pasar, Toraja coffee served in kopi tubruk style, informal cultural conversation, Indonesian music and dance, and live performance.

What we achieved:

The event created an accessible cultural entry point for people with different levels of familiarity with Indonesia. Food, coffee, conversation, music, movement and performance encouraged audiences to participate rather than simply observe. By bringing Indonesian traditions together with contemporary queer creativity, IQC created opportunities for cultural exchange, increased visibility of Indonesia’s diversity and strengthened connections between Indonesian, LGBTQIA+, multicultural and wider Sydney communities.
