Overview

"Through art, we express and celebrate our intersectional identities, fostering both personal acceptance and collective support understanding"

The Indonesian Queer Collective is a vibrant community that represents a variety of backgrounds and experiences, consisting of multiple immigrant generations. Some maintain strong ties to their roots, being fluent in the language and raised in Indonesian traditions. Others have a more tenuous connection, being only aware of their ancestry, and seek to reconnect with their heritage culture.

About Us

The Indonesian Queer Collective (IQC), founded on Gadigal Land (Sydney, Australia), emerged from a vibrant grassroots community that celebrated identity through Mardi Gras marches and Indonesian queer parties. On April 9, 2025, IQC became the first Indonesian queer organisation to be legally registered as a charity outside Indonesia, recognised by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and endorsed by the Australian Tax Office (ATO) for tax-deductible donations.

Through queer arts as a celebration of culture and connection, IQC highlights the richness of the Indonesian queer diaspora. By sharing heritage, creativity, and stories, IQC brings diverse voices into the spotlight, fostering inclusion within Australian queer spaces and building bridges across communities. In doing so, we celebrate the beauty of diversity and the strength of coming together through authentic expression.
