Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean for us that you are a charity organisation?
We are an entity that operates primarily to fulfil our institutional objectives rather than to generate profit. We are not motivated by financial gain, and all proceeds are systematically reinvested back into the organisation's activities. We do not engage in operations for the monetary benefit of our committee members or any other affiliated parties.
What is the objective of your organisation?
Our primary focus serves as a cultural organisation that celebrates and explores Indonesian diasporic and LGBTQIA+ identities through the arts and cultural activities. This encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including performing arts, community arts, literature, narrative arts, music, film, visual arts, culinary arts, and design.
Do you hire individuals to run your organisation?
Our organisation operates entirely on a voluntary basis. All committee members maintain full-time employment outside of their roles in the organisation, contributing a diverse range of skills including leadership, project management, governance, policy development, customer service, and expertise in arts and culture.
As an Indonesian LGBTQIA+ person, can you assist me with my protection visa application in Australia?
We acknowledge the complexities inherent in matters regarding protection visas, especially in relation to vulnerable individuals. However, as a volunteer-based cultural charity organisation, we do not have a professional legal team to guide such applications or to provide legal advice. It is essential that these issues are addressed by a qualified and registered migration agent. That said, IQC remains deeply committed to supporting queer refugees through the work we are equipped to do. Our focus is on creating safe and affirming spaces by organising art and cultural events, dialogues, and community activities that contribute to wellbeing, visibility, and solidarity.
Where does your organisation’s funding come from?
We rely on financial support through donations, grants, government funding, contributions from Mardi Gras parade participants, and fundraising events. This generosity is vital for our continued success.
How can we access the financial report of your organisation?
We are committed to transparency and good governance, which is why we publish our annual financial statement on our website by the end of the financial year on June 30 each year. This initiative not only complies with our obligations as a not-for-profit organisation, but also reinforces our dedication to accountability and trust with our stakeholders.
I represent an LGBTQIA+ organisation/community in Indonesia. Could you assist us with a donation or sponsorship?
We've officially registered as a not-for-profit cultural organisation as of April 9, 2025 and obtained charity status from the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). Our focus is mainly on operations within Australia, and while we recognise the importance of engaging with overseas organisations, including sending international monetary donations, this can sometimes lead to complex governance challenges due to associated risks. Therefore, we sincerely regret that, at this time, our organisation is unable to provide financial support for overseas activities. Nonetheless, we remain committed to raising awareness for urgent relief causes by sharing information with our audience, enabling our followers to contribute through individual donations. Additionally, we are eager to explore opportunities for collaboration with Indonesian queer artists to showcase their incredible talents here in Sydney - Australia, as long as we can secure the necessary grants.
