About the event
Event description:
The 2024 edition of Indonesian Queer and That Unicorn brought Indonesian queer stories and creative expression together during Sydney’s Mardi Gras season. For the first time, we combined a talk show exploring Indonesian queer experiences with live performances showcasing Indonesian queer artists based in Sydney, alongside special guest Kai Mata, an openly lesbian musician from Indonesia.
What we achieved:
The event sold out, marking an important milestone for our emerging community. It was our first time bringing together conversation and live performance in one program, creating a platform where Indonesian queer lived experiences could be shared alongside music and artistic expression. Featuring both Sydney-based performers and Kai Mata from Indonesia also allowed us to connect local Indonesian queer creativity with an international artist, expanding the cultural exchange beyond our Sydney community.
